Dial Portfolio

Prototype

A portfolio you turn rather than scroll — a physical-feeling rotary dial with detents, momentum, and sound as the entire navigation model.

Last updated Feb 15, 2026

Early prototype

This project is a working prototype — the core concept is proven but it is not yet production-ready.

The problem

Portfolio sites converge on the same vertical scroll. The interaction itself is never part of the work, even when the work is interaction design.

What’s being built

A single-page React app built around a dial. A custom hook models friction, momentum, and snap strength so the control feels weighted rather than animated; sections sit at angles instead of in a list; and detents fire audible clicks as you pass them. Rotating selects a section, and the dial hands off to either a focused reading view or a radial project browser. An experiment in whether navigation can carry a portfolio on its own.

Latest update

An interaction experiment rather than a product — the question is whether a dial can replace scrolling without becoming a novelty.

Current milestone
